Here Are the Winners of Castle USA’s ‘What’s Your Angle’ Student Contest

The big winners in the annual contest both came from high schools in Nebraska. Judging is based on screw-pocket joinery effectiveness and innovation.

Students from two high schools in Nebraska were the big winners in this year’s “What’s Your Angle” woodworking contest sponsored by Castle USA. The 2022-2023 competition was judged by a panel of industry leaders with entries evaluated based on the overall look and presentation of the project as well as the most effective and innovative use of screw pocket joinery.

The Class Entry winner was a complete, custom kitchen cabinet build submitted by Reed-Custer High School of Custer, NE.

The Individual winner was a Side Pocket Chair submitted by DJ Shaw, from Lincoln East High School in Lincoln, NE.

The complete list of winning projects is available on the Castle USA website. Entries were not required to use Castle machinery or products.

“We were so impressed with the entries that we gave more than a few Honorable Mentions,” says Mathias Forsman, Castle CEO. “We decided to award Castle 110-pocket cutters to each of them as well.”

Castle USA, based in Petaluma, CA is an American machinery manufacturer “championing the cause of the entrepreneurial woodworker” since the 1980s. Castle products are assembled in the U.S., using American-made and globally sourced components.
