The new initiative uses the giant retailer’s more than 2,000 stores as fulfillment hubs for thousands of items.
The new service is part of a larger trend that is seeing retailers across the country offer super-fast deliveries from their stores. Some use third-party delivery services like DoorDash or Uber Eats. Depot does not specify how it is fulfilling its orders.
In announcing the service, the company said it uses the retailer’s supply chain network in addition to its stores to fulfill orders in three hours or less. Pro and DIY customers will be charged a $7 flat fee in most major markets and a $10 flat fee in some areas like Los Angeles, the company said. No subscription or membership is required. Consumers who want to use the service can access it on the Home Depot ordering website, and when they check out, they will see three-hour delivery as an option. It covers, among other categories, plumbing, hardware, paint and tools.
“Customers expect products to be available when and where they need them, and Express Delivery helps us meet that expectation with a fast, reliable solution,” said Jordan Broggi, executive vice president of interconnected retail, in announcing the services. “Whether you’re a DIYer who needs one more bag of fertilizer to finish the yard or a Pro running short on adhesives and caulk for a time-sensitive job, Express Delivery makes it easier than ever for our customers to get the supplies they need, right when they need them most.”
