Course Description

Presented and Sponsored by: Nederman

Combustible wood dust remains a major fire and explosion risk in mills and shops. This session explains the shift to NFPA 660, the consolidated standard superseding NFPA 664, and what it means for dust-hazard analysis, housekeeping thresholds, ignition control, deflagration venting, and isolation. We’ll map requirements to typical woodworking processes—cutting, sanding, CNC routing, conveying, and storage—and highlight failure points from recent incidents. Looking toward 2026, we’ll review trends such as smart, sensor-driven dust collection, spark detection and suppression, improved isolation devices, and tighter links between dust control, indoor air quality, and insurance expectations. Participants leave with actionable steps right away.
