Atlanta, GA—With a dual focus on the thousands of products it delivers to essential industries fueling U.S. growth and the manufacturers keeping the product pipeline full, the woodworking industry steps into the global spotlight with Woodworking Manufacturing Month launching Friday, October 1.
For 31 days, Woodworking Manufacturing Month celebrates North American woodworking’s large and expanding role in the global industrial sector. From its earliest days, the woodworking industry has been powered by innovation and transformed by technology.
The fusion of innovation and technology continues to fuel business growth and career opportunities in more than 500 woodworking business segments, manufacturing thousands of essential products that supply fundamental industries, like home building and commercial construction, that form the backbone of the U.S. economy.
The vibrance and resilience of the wood manufacturing industry has been a beacon for other sectors through the COVID-19 pandemic. Thousands of woodworking businesses were quickly declared “essential businesses” under local and national government guidelines.
Beyond the immediate requirements of construction and remodeling for medical centers, woodworking firms benefited in building out implementation of required safety shields and partitions for retailers, offices, and other manufacturing businesses. This kept woodworking factories humming, producing and reconfiguring cabinetry and casegoods to meet government directives. Likewise, revised floor plans for home offices and studies demanded services from cabinet makers, closet shops, and home remodeling firms. New and existing home sales rose at a torrid pace, driving growth in windows, doors, flooring, and cabinetry, as well as furnishings, as consumers exercised a new-found freedom to relocate without concern for commutes.
To serve these trends, wood products manufacturers of cabinetry, furniture, casegoods, flooring, doors and windows have been expanding and investing with state-of-the-art factories and advanced technologies. Woodworking Manufacturing Month celebrates these contributions in partnership with leading manufacturers taking featured roles in this celebration, and who make the biannual International Woodworking Fair a centerpiece of woodworking industry innovation.
