Watch out Home Depot, Lowe’s, Ace and True Value: The giant discounter is expanding its tools and building supplies department.
It’s the world’s biggest retailer, yet is often an afterthought in the hardware and tool business. But that could change with a new product roll-out from Walmart as earlier this month the giant introduced an expanded program of private-label branded power tools and other products in what’s been called a “a sweeping refresh.”
The launch includes the debut of Greenworks Pro, a professional-grade line of power tools as well as a broader expansion of the existing Greenworks 24-volt Powerall and Hyper Tough tool assortments. The retailer also introduced a new home décor program for kids’ rooms at the same time.
“At Walmart, we’re always looking for ways to bring innovative products, modern design and strong value to our customers,” said Courtney Carlson, senior vice president of merchandising at Walmart. “From professional-grade tools to stylish, affordable home décor for families, these launches reflect how we’re continuing to evolve our assortment to better serve the needs of today’s customers.”
The Greenworks Pro line is specifically targeted at pro builders, a demographic Walmart has not previously targeted in any meaningful way. It is also available through Business.Walmart.com, the retailer’s dedicated platform for small business and commercial customers.
