Adding to efforts by local businesses and organizations, the two big national chains are making big donations to help.
The recent deadly floods in the Hill Country of central Texas have devastated the local area with the loss of life and property. As local groups start to roll out donations and programs to help the victims and their families, Home Depot and Lowe’s have been leading the national retail effort to aid in the recovery work. Other retailers, including Walmart and Ace, have also made pledges of support.
Lowe’s said it has committed $500,000 to support disaster relief efforts in the area where as many as 100 people are confirmed dead with dozens more unaccounted for. The retailer said, “The donation will support Lowe’s nonprofit partners and first responders as they work to address urgent needs and recovery efforts.” In addition, “Lowe’s associates in the area will continue to work alongside local officials to distribute much-needed relief supplies.”
Home Depot said it is donating $250,000 through its Home Depot Foundation to support relief efforts in the area. The organization said it is working alongside its longstanding nonprofit partners, including World Central Kitchen, Convoy of Hope, Operation Blessing and Team Rubicon, to deliver relief supplies, meals and other resources to affected communities. “Team Depot, The Home Depot’s associate volunteer force, is also identifying donations needed to support cleanup and other recovery efforts with local organizations,” the company said.
Another big donation from the retail world came from Walmart, which said it is pledging $500,000 including $250,000 in direct donations and another $250,000 matching additional customer and member donations. Ace Hardware, as well as companies that include Procter & Gamble and Apple are also making donations.
