Barrie, ON—Compact high pressure laminate is a favored with designers for projects and furnishings, but there have been few choices for insert fasteners with high load capacities and sized for the thinner panels. To fill this void, Rampa Tec has developed the Insert type E.
Compact HPL panels are used in both indoor and outside areas. In interiors, many everyday wood furnishings are made of compact HPL. The material has also been used in numerous other applications including coverings, sheathing, fronts, etc. Notable examples of exterior applications are outdoor furnishings, facade claddings, and signage.
Rampa Tec says optimal processing solutions for 10 mm compact high pressure laminate did not exist, and set about developing its solution. The resulting Insert type E offers strong connectivity compact HPL compact panels, down to a minimum thickness of 6 mm which fills a large market gap. The Rampa Insert type E fastener will debut at IWF 2022 (Booth C1166), and is listed among the entries for the IWF 2022 Challengers Award Competition.
The Insert type E also eliminates requirements for adhesives to reinforce the insert, reducing the steps and costs. It provides a stable and permanent detachable connection that can be easily established by screwing the insert into a standardized pre-drill diameter.
The insert type E has an outside diameter of 9 mm with a length of 4.8 mm. Despite this tiny size, the new product boasts high load capacities of approximately 200 kg and can also be used in small installation, small edge distances. The compact HPL panel insert has even more applications since it is always detachable.
Due to the insert’s short length (4.8 mm), Rampa Tec developed two new versions of its Driver Type 515 in M5 and M6 size for the Type E insert. The longer Driver 515 versions are not recommended for the short Type E insert because the set screw of the driver will be longer than the RAMPA insert itself. The Rampa type 515 is particularly suitable because the insert type E has to be installed using the internal thread. This tool is equipped with a heavy-duty bearing design enabling the threaded insert to be screwed in straight.
Rampa Tec is known for high-quality inserts in the wood industry. The product range includes inserts for wood, metal, and plastics industries. RAMPA GmbH & Co. based in Büchen, Germany, near Hamburg, stand behind the company. The family-owned enterprise founded in 1907 produces and offers inserts under the brand name RAMPA®.
