BIGonDRY s.r.l. is an Italian company that produces Wood Drying Kilns and Heat Treatment Plants. The company has a staff of more than 30 people, among engineers and highly skilled workers. It holds a long background on product design and development, staff training, field work installation and customer service. BIGonDRY s.r.l. is also focused on eco-sustainable processes and the construction of eco-friendly systems in order to create a development opportunity but with attention to optimizing energy consumption, combining the best price-quality ratio.
Among its products, BIGonDRY s.r.l. proposes the Wood Thermal-modification Kilns (THW), a new technology for the thermal modification of wood with high temperature. This range of plants goes from a net capacity of 10 m³ (4,000 bf) up to 30 m³ (12,700 bf), with a very precise and sophisticated management system.
BIGonDRY s.r.l. built a technologically advanced and extremely versatile machine that can do different treatments as Drying, Steaming, Heat Treatment according to ISPM-15 Standards, High temperature treatment up to 446°F, Thermal-steaming of the wood, with enormous advantages in terms of consumption and environmental impact thanks to the reduced emission into the atmosphere and the advanced electronic control that guarantees excellent results in the property of the wood.
Moreover, a very sophisticated electronic control system guarantees excellent results on wood with dark and homogeneous colour tones throughout the thickness. This innovative system of heat treatment plant at high temperatures gives the wood characteristics of durability and stability, without chemical additives on the wood. The thermally modified wood reduces shrinkage and swelling and improves resistance against pest infestation.
The THW system is a semi-dry process in a closed system. The thermal stage of the process is performed in a slight overpressure given by the natural production of gases from the wood and from the controlled evaporation of a direct source of water supplied by the system. During the HT period the oxygen concentration and the pressure is continuously monitored as well as the possible temperature difference between air and wood core. As a result, the THW system uses a very little quantity of steam allowing to reach an eco-friendly approach to the process with a lower energy requirement, a limited emission of gases in the environment and a highly competitive plant cost.
